A water heating problem in Darlinghurst
“Mum, the water is too hot”, Brady yelled from the bathroom. “It’s steaming.”
“Let me take a look, Honey”, Emma said as she walked into the bathroom.
Sure enough. The water was too hot and there was steam all around. She was sure she had set the thermostat low. Two hours later, Emma set the thermostat very low.
But, when she turned the tap in the shower that evening, the water was scalding once again. Now she was sure that the hot water heater was having some problems.
“It could be that the thermostat is not working”, said Melanie, her best friend from work. “Why don’t you try and change the thermostat?”
“Oh, and how do I do that?” Emma had always been a person with three thumbs when it came to such things.
“Never mind. Let me see if I can come around tomorrow and give you a hand”, laughed Melanie after she had failed to explain the simple procedure to Emma, who did not seem to get anything much beyond turning off the mains.
Emma was sure that the problem was rectified. Melanie could not stay to test the hot water service because she had an urgent call from her ailing mother in Bronte. After the hasty goodbye, Emma came back and fairly forgot about the hot water service until it was time for her laundry.
She tested the water, and it was still too hot. ‘What! Even the new thermostat is not working? Can’t be’, she thought to herself.
Since Melanie was away and it seemed likely that she would be away for a while, Emma considered it more prudent to get the problem sorted out by a plumber. After all, Brady could get a severe burn if she was not careful.
But, Emma was new in the neighbourhood and she had no contact numbers of any plumbers with her. That afternoon, she took out all the flyers and ads she had received when she moved in. She sorted through them and came across a couple of plumbers from Darlinghurst. Emma was dismayed. Was it so hard to find a decent plumber in Darlinghurst?
The last call turned out to be different. For one thing, she actually talked to a warm human voice. Besides, the plumbing agency promised to send a plumber immediately (one who specialised in hot water system repairs)!
Just as they had promised, the Darlinghurst plumber was at her doorstep in less than 25 minutes.
“That was quick”, Emma exclaimed.
“Oh, we are always in the neighbourhood. We take care of clients in Rushcutters Bay, Elizabeth Bay, Potts Point, Ultimo, Sydney, Paddington, Surry Hills and the Eastern Suburbs. So, one of us is almost always in the neighbourhood.”
In twenty minutes flat, the Darlinghurst plumber said the thermostat she had put in the hot water system was the wrong type. They then set the thermostat to low and tested the hot water heater several times. Not a hitch! He even backed up his work with a guarantee. What a great plumber she had found.
